In New York City, students apply to middle school during their fifth grade year. Watch the video series and read this page to learn all about middle school admissions this year.

Please note even if your 5th grader is a current student at P.S. 89, they still MUST complete a Middle School Application in order to continue onto Middle School at P.S. 89.

All 5th graders were sent home with a paper application.  You can also complete this paper application and submit to the school counselor if you do not want to create a MySchools Account.

Middle School Admissions Timeline:

• Wednesday, October 11, 2023: Middle School Application Opens 

• Friday, November 10, 2023: Deadline to register to test for Mark Twain I.S. 239 (21K239) and District 21 Talent Tests

• Friday, December 8, 2023: Middle School Application Closes 

• Wednesday, April 3, 2024: Middle School Offer Release​

During the application period, you can apply one of three ways:

• Online at MySchools.nyc or

• Through your current school counselor (for public DOE and charter school students)

• Through a Family Welcome Center (for private or parochial school students)
